Play with Tempo

Air Raid offenses play up-tempo football. This means they are fast to the line fast to the snap, and fast after the snap. Aiming to keep the defense on its toes, wearing them out by playing at a pace so quick they cannot make substitutions or adjustments.

Drill Description:

The full field Tempo Drill starts slow to get your players used to the the pre-snap and post-play processes, but quickly speeds up to what you want to see in the game.

During the Tempo Drill, the offense attempts to score a touchdown in the time allotted. If you have enough players, you may put a defense on the field once your team has mastered running on air.

Start by giving them 3:00 to score with a running clock (no timeouts). When they can score two TD’s in a row at 3:00, drop to 2:30. Continue this way until your offense can score consistently in 1:00.
